Help with LayerPDF

Most jobs finish in a few seconds. These answers cover file privacy, limits and the most common browser issues.

Quick troubleshooting

  • Use an up-to-date version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
  • For a very large PDF, close unused tabs to free device memory.
  • Refresh the page and choose the file again if processing was interrupted.
  • Make sure the PDF is not password-protected or damaged.
  • Keep the page open until the result is ready.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my files uploaded?

They are not uploaded to LayerPDF. File reading and processing happen in your browser on your current device.

Why does a large PDF take longer?

Your device performs the work. Page count, image resolution, available memory and browser speed all affect processing time.

Can LayerPDF open a password-protected PDF?

Not in this release. Remove the password with the original document software, then try the unlocked copy.

Does compression preserve selectable text?

No. The current compressor rasterizes pages to reduce image-heavy files. Keep the original if you need searchable or selectable text.

Why is the result larger than the original?

Some source files are already highly optimized. Converting or rebuilding them can occasionally create a larger result.
